In the aftermath of a wildfire or
flood, you may be eligible for technical and financial assistance
from our district, in conjunction with the Natural Resources Conservation
Service (NRCS), to prevent further damage to your property from
flooding, runoff, and erosion under the Emergency Watershed Protection
Program (EWP).
This program provides assistance to safeguard
people and property following natural disasters, such as wildfires.
EWP work may include repairing existing water controlslevees,
dikes, and other flood retarding structures; removing debris and
sediment from water courses to prevent future flooding; establishing
vegetative cover; and protecting streambanks, all work that can
be sponsored and completed by the RCD. If the project qualifies,
NRCS pays up to 75% of the construction costs of eligible emergency
treatments. The 25% cost share would be paid by the landowner, with
possible reimbursement through the Office of Emergency Services
or other emergency programs. Additional information about the EWP
program is available through the NRCS web site at http://www.nrcs.usda.gov/.
If you feel you may require assistance to prevent
erosion or flooding, please complete the card below and either e-mail
or send it to our office. One of our resource technicians will call
you to set up a meeting, look at potential erosion or flooding problems,
and coordinate with NRCS to prepare a damage survey report to determine
your eligibility under the Emergency Watershed Protection Program.
